Manager, People Operations
About the role
Our client within investment management requires a Manager, People Operations to join their team. The core mandate is to run the hiring engine: finding, attracting, and especially closing exceptional product, design, engineering, and financial talent across the businesses they build. Beyond hiring, you will put real HR foundations under a growing portfolio of companies that this role supports. That means building a proper onboarding program, bringing professional rigor to HR documentation, policies, and talent assessments, and helping them shape and steady the culture as they grow.
You are likely a strong fit if you are a recruiter who genuinely closes, communicates crisply with founders and senior operators, and has the practical HR expertise to build credible foundations where none exist yet. This role has clear room to grow into a broader people leadership seat.
What You'll Do Recruiting & Talent Acquisition (primary focus) Own full-cycle recruitment across the portfolio (intake, sourcing, screening, interview coordination, and closing offers), with a particular focus on product, design, and engineering roles. Close candidates. Own the offer and closing process end to end Build proactive sourcing pipelines for active and anticipated roles rather than relying on inbound applications. Partner with and coach hiring managers to scope roles, set the bar, structure interviews, and reach confident decisions. Run a sharp candidate experience that motivates the candidate to make the move Own the ATS, pipeline data, and hiring reporting (pipeline health, time-to-fill, and offer outcomes) so leadership has visibility and the engine keeps improving.
People Foundations (build & own) Build a formal onboarding program from the ground up, giving every new hire a consistent, well-structured start. Bring HR rigor to documentation and policy. Own employment agreements, offer letters, HR policies, and talent assessment frameworks so they are professional, consistent, and compliant with relevant employment standards, rather than assembled ad hoc. Help define and strengthen culture, partnering with leadership on the practices, communication, and employee experience that make the culture intentional rather than accidental. Maintain accurate, confidential people records and keep people systems and the org chart current, with light reporting on headcount and basic people metrics. Coordinate payroll and benefits administration with external providers, and field day-to-day employee questions.
What You'll Bring 5-7 years across recruiting and people/HR, including clear ownership of full cycle hiring and a track record of closing offers. Demonstrated success sourcing and closing product, design, and/or engineering talent in a competitive market. Experience building HR foundations from scratch (onboarding, policies, employment documentation), ideally as an early or first People hire. Working knowledge of Ontario employment standards sufficient to own policy and employment documents. The credibility and communication skills to partner directly with founders and senior operators, and a hand in shaping culture. A practical, build-it mindset, strong organization, and the discretion to handle confidential information.
