Mission & Values Manager
Unity Health Toronto is seeking a permanent full-time (1.0 FTE) Mission & Values Manager. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Mission, Values & Spiritual Care, the successful candidate will provide mission integration leadership across all sites of Unity Health Toronto in promoting and operationalizing the mission and values of the organization. This goal is achieved through advancing mission engagement by orientation and formation of staff, physicians, and volunteers; the coordination, development, and delivery of workshops, education sessions, and one-on-one meetings; through advancing an inclusive understanding of Catholic health care that promotes human dignity, equity, belonging, and compassionate service; and by moving mission forward through the design and implementation of strategies, processes, and programs so that the organization and its staff live and deepen their understanding of the role of mission and values in Catholic health care. The Mission and Values Manager, in collaboration with other staff and stakeholders, is also a resource to senior leadership, providing tactical support in managing and monitoring the network’s Mission Integration strategy.
As a trusted leader and relationship builder, the Mission and Values Manager supports values-based leadership and mission integration/mission literacy across the organization.
Days of Work : Monday - Friday
Hours of Work : 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide leadership in Mission integration and effectiveness.
Advances organizational and clinical initiatives through the creative and practical integration of Mission and Values.
Leads the planning and implementation of Mission Day, Feast Day celebrations and other mission-focused events.
Manages the organization’s annual values-based recognition program, including chairing the awards selection committee at each site.
Coordinates and provides leadership of the Mission Champion Program.
Promotes and enhances the mission and values of the organization through storytelling, modelling the best traditions of Catholic health care and championing the legacy of the founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto.
Motivates and actively engages leaders in initiatives designed to promote the Mission and Values in their respective areas, in ways and means deemed appropriate, eg. through participation on committees, undertaking special Mission integration projects, working with departments and/or units to ensure the annual objectives of the programs include opportunities to promote and grow the Mission and Values.
Collaborates with all levels of management and departments to ensure the Mission and Values are understood and identifying opportunities to integrate mission and values into everyday practice, eg. the provision of excellence in patient care, accountable human resource management, and progressive organizational development.
Drawing on knowledge of Catholic Social Teachings, integrates its core principles and traditions into organizational operations, eg. human dignity, respect for individual beliefs and values, care for those experiencing disadvantage, marginalization and inequity, concern for the common good, promotion of justice and stewardship resources, and unity of purpose.
Develops and facilitates mission orientation programs, workshops, retreats, educational modules and reflection opportunities that deepen understanding of the organization's mission, values, and Catholic identity.
Develops and implements programs that empower staff at all levels to live out their personal calling, values and behaviors that are compatible with the organization’s values.
Provides initial support and guidance regarding mission-related concerns, moral distress, and values-based decision making, and facilitates referral to appropriate ethics, spiritual care, leadership, HR, or professional resources as required.
Advocates for programs and initiatives that promote staff wellbeing, resilience, professional growth and mission engagement.
Meets with all new leaders to introduce them to the Mission and Values of the organization.
Collaborates with colleagues at Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario (CHSO)
Reports to the Mission Committee of the Board as requested.
Qualifications
Master's degree in Theology, Ethics, Religious Studies, or another relevant discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution.
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in mission integration, ethics, theology, spiritual care, faith-based organizations or related fields.
Demonstrated experience integrating organizational mission and values within complex organizations.
Experience Managing Budgets Required.
Proficient in business software including such programs as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.
Experience designing and delivering leadership formation, adult education, retreats, and workshops as they relate to promoting awareness of the Mission and Values.
A broad understanding of the Catholic tradition, the ethical and religious directives for Catholic health care, Catholic social teachings, and knowledge and understanding of other faiths and traditions preferred.
Strong understanding of organizational ethics and values-based leadership, and an ability to help direct staff to ethics resources.
Knowledge of Catholic governance structures and the relationship between the organization and the sponsor.
Excellent facilitation, presentation and adult education skills.
Exceptional communication, relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated diplomacy, sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to navigate complex and sensitive situations.
Ability to work collaboratively across diverse disciplines and organizational levels.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and cultural humility.
Ability to adapt to organizational changes and a changing health care environment.
Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging best practices in mission integration, ethics and Catholic health care.
