About the role
Required for St. Paul Education
The St. Paul Education Division Office, based in St. Paul Alberta, requires a Payroll & Benefits Administrator due to the retirement of the incumbent. This is a full-time permanent position working 35 hours per week on a 12-month schedule. The position will commence on October 1, 2026, but could start as early as mid-August depending on the skills and experience of the individual.

The Role
Reporting to the Associate Superintendent of Human Resources, the Payroll & Benefits Administrator manages full-cycle payroll processing and benefits coordination for both unionized and exempt employees. In this role, you will navigate multiple collective agreements (such as the Alberta Teachers' Association agreement) and division administrative policies to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
System Management: Utilize PowerSchool for basic employee demographic data tracking and Atrieve for full-cycle payroll generation. Full-Cycle Payroll: Process complex monthly payroll calculations, retroactive payments, and terminations. Employee Portals: Assisting staff with leave history, earnings statements, and T4 generation. Pension Administration: Remit and track accurate contributions for the Alberta Teachers' Retirement Fund (ATRF) and the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) ASECP Benefits Administration Annual WCB reporting Compliance & Tracking: Interpret collective agreement clauses regarding grid adjustments, experience increments, and leaves of absence. Inquiries: Act as the primary point of contact for staff questions such as grid placement, verification of experience, etc.

Qualifications & Skills
Education: Diploma or degree in Accounting, Payroll Administration, Business Administration, or related field would be considered an asset. PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or CPM designation would be considered an asset. Software Expertise: Proven operational experience with Atrieve ERP and PowerSchool configurations. Industry Knowledge: Previous experience (3-5 years) working within an Alberta K-12 school division handling multi-union structures. Skills: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Google Workspace, payroll/accounting software systems, Alberta Employment Standards, and CRA payroll laws. Core Traits: Outstanding confidentiality, direct attention to detail, strong professional communication skills and interpersonal skills.

We serve the communities of St. Paul, Elk Point, Two Hills, Mallaig, Ashmont, Myrnam and Heinsburg. In 1995, parent and community stakeholders initiated the amalgamation of five school boards into what is now St. Paul Education. In doing so, St. Paul Education became the only school division in Alberta to operate both separate and public schools under one board. We serve 3,640 students (K-12), including Catholic, First Nation, Mennonite, Hutterite and Home Schooling learners. Our 19 definable school sites are staffed by approximately 235 FTE teaching staff and 300 support staff.
