Aquatic Supervisor

We are looking for a highly motivated professional to contribute to the Recreation & Cultural Services Department.
Reporting to the Manager of Recreation & Client Services this position is responsible for staffing, administration and programming for the Aquatic Centre as well as annual prepare the operating and capital budget and the development of the aquatic leadership training program.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates and supervises the development, delivery of Aquatic Centre instructional, leisure, leadership and fitness programs and aquatic special events, and services.
- Identifies aquatic program needs and ensures content, safety and health standards are appropriate, and other applicable regulatory standards are complied with.
- Organizes community based public education programs and special events both within the aquatics centre and within the community.
- Develops and implements Aquatic related policies, procedures and ensures that they are to the standard as established by the Ministry of Health and that they are adhered to by staff.
- Supervises full-time and part-time and contract aquatic staff including orientation, scheduling, training, health and safety and other regulatory compliance, performance appraisal, promotion and discipline.
- Monitors and maintains safety and program equipment regularly including requests for cleaning, daily safety checks, being aware of minor/ major repairs as necessary.
- Verifies and submits staff payroll data and contract submissions
- Administers and monitors approved annual operating and capital budget submissions for the Aquatic Centre. Administers budget allocations including purchasing approved supplies and equipment.
Key Competencies and Qualifications
- University degree in Recreation or Physical Education or related discipline accompanied by direct experience supervising in municipal aquatic centre.
- Current certification in National Lifeguard, Standard First Aid, with CPR C, Swim and Lifesaving Instructor, Emergency First Aid Instructor, Airway Management Certification and, Aquatics Supervisor Training.
- Examiner certification in Bronze, Supervision Evaluation and Enhancement (SEE) Auditor.
- Current Instructor and Examiner certifications in Standard First Aid and National Lifeguard, Swim/Lifesaving Instructor Trainer and Examiner Mentor status preferred.
- Additional preferred certification in Lifesaving Coach Level 1, Pool Operator Certification, Safety Inspector and Safety Auditor, thorough knowledge of Public Pool Regulation 565, and extensive experience delivering aquatic leadership courses preferred.
- 5 years related experience in program research and design, marketing principles and concepts, program standards/evaluation, and budget development and administration.
- Significant experience of computer applications including MS Office and ActiveNet program maintenance and registration.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, time/project management, organizational, analytical, recordkeeping, work prioritization, problem-solving and staff leadership and supervisory skills.
- Ability to promote a culture of inclusiveness and work with a diverse population of employees, participants, agencies and the public.
- Ability to complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening upon hire.
The position offers a salary range of $94,192 to $114,491 (2026 rates) based on a 35 hour workweek plus a competitive benefit package and an option for flexible work arrangements.
