About the role
ABOUT THE ROLE We are hiring an HR Generalist to be the People & Culture backbone of our Airport Division. This is a hands-on generalist role for someone who wants to work closely with a fast-moving operational leadership team, be on the ground where the work happens, and see the direct impact of their HR partnership on retention, culture, and business performance.
Reporting directly to the Director, People & Culture and partnering closely with the District Manager, Airports, you will be the primary HR point of contact for airport employees and managers across every location. You will support the full employee lifecycle — from hiring and onboarding through employee relations, retention, engagement, and offboarding — with multi-province responsibility across five provinces.
The role is based at our Head Office at Yonge and Sheppard in Toronto, with regular travel to our airport locations. You will spend meaningful time on the ground with airport teams, especially at Toronto Pearson, where several of our largest locations operate.
WHAT YOU WILL DO • Serve as the first point of contact for airport employees and managers on HR matters, from day-to-day questions to more complex employee relations conversations • Partner with the District Manager, Airports and Store Managers to drive retention, engagement, and consistent people practices across all airport locations • Own the airport division's onboarding experience — welcoming new hires, ensuring GTAA and airport-authority documentation is complete, and running early check-ins to catch flight risk before it becomes an exit • Own airport-specific hiring including interview coaching for Store Managers and interview participation on senior airport roles • Handle employee relations matters with discretion and judgment, escalating appropriately and documenting thoroughly • Coordinate multi-province compliance across Ontario, Nova Scotia, Alberta and Manitoba — postings, JHSC, and provincial ESA requirements • Support performance management conversations, PIP processes, and manager coaching on difficult employee conversations • Contribute to broader P&C initiatives such as the retention scorecard, exit interview redesign, and engagement programs, bringing an airport-lens perspective to enterprise-wide work • Represent the airport division in weekly and monthly people cadences with the Director and District Manager, surfacing themes, escalating concerns, and driving action
WHO YOU ARE You are an experienced HR Generalist who thrives in a fast-moving, operationally intense business. You are comfortable being on the ground with frontline teams and equally comfortable partnering with senior leadership. You bring judgment and discretion to sensitive conversations, and you know when to act, when to escalate, and when to listen.
Must-have • 3–5 years of progressive HR Generalist experience in a multi-location or multi-province environment • Working knowledge of Ontario Employment Standards; experience across multiple Canadian jurisdictions is a strong asset • Experience with HR operations and HRIS platforms (Dayforce, Workday, ADP Workforce Now, or similar) • Comfort with employee relations, including handling difficult conversations, documentation, and escalation judgment • Willingness and ability to travel regularly within Canada to airport locations • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business, or a related field • Clear, professional written and verbal communication in English Preferred • CHRP designation completed or actively in progress • Prior experience in retail, hospitality, airport, telecommunications, or another 24/7 operations environment • Familiarity with statutory compliance programs (AODA, WHMIS, Workplace Violence Prevention) and JHSC administration • Understanding of the unique operational reality of airport retail — early opens, late closes, weekends, holidays
WHAT WE OFFER • Competitive base salary and comprehensive benefits package • Direct visibility to the P&C leadership team and to the senior operational leadership of our fastest-growing division • A genuine seat at the table on retention and engagement work that shapes the airport division's future • Clear growth pathway — this role is designed as a foundation for progression into HR Business Partner or Senior HR Generalist responsibilities as the airport division continues to scale • A People & Culture team that prizes discipline, honesty, and moving quickly
