About the role

Job Summary & Requirements

At Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), our purpose is our why - our commitment to “Making life better with the care you need, close to home”. Serving the communities of Simcoe Muskoka and surrounding regions, RVH is advancing a bold future through our Vitally You strategy, grounded in our values: Team Up, Be Kind, Do Great Things, Inspire Trust, & Be Bold.

The Director, People Wellbeing is a senior HR leader who advances RVH’s commitment to caring for those who care for others by creating the conditions for Team RVH to stay healthy, supported, connected, and able to do their best work for patients.

Leading an integrated portfolio that includes wellbeing, health and safety, disability management, attendance, scheduling, timekeeping, payroll, and volunteer resources, the Director will shift RVH toward a more proactive model of prevention, early intervention, recovery, and sustained workforce health. Success requires a strong HR professional with unionized and labour relations experience, relevant exposure to wellbeing or workforce support areas, enterprise thinking, data-informed judgment, and the ability to lead specialized teams in support of Team RVH and Vitally You.

Reporting to the Vice President, People Experience and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), the Director will be accountable for:

Lead an integrated wellbeing and workforce sustainability strategy that connects prevention, psychological health and safety, employee wellbeing, attendance, disability management, scheduling, payroll, volunteer resources, and leader accountability. Build a proactive, prevention-focused approach that reduces workforce risk, strengthens resilience and recovery, and supports a healthy, reliable workforce. Use wellbeing, safety, attendance, scheduling, payroll, and workforce data to improve stability, reduce risk, support care delivery, and identify issues earlier. Ensure reliable, compliant, and people-centred processes for illness, injury, accommodation, return to work, WSIB, attendance, timekeeping, scheduling, and pay. Partner with leaders, unions, physicians, volunteers, and People Team colleagues to support complex people matters, strengthen accountability, and build psychologically safe, inclusive work environments. Build and lead multidisciplinary teams while contributing to the evolution of the People Team as a strategic, data-informed, digitally enabled workforce partner.

The Leader We Are Looking For

You are a strong senior HR professional who sees wellbeing as a core workforce strategy — one that shapes culture, strengthens leadership, protects capacity, and enables safe, reliable care.

You bring broad HR leadership, sound judgment, unionized and labour relations experience, and relevant exposure to wellbeing, safety, disability management, attendance, scheduling, payroll, or related workforce support functions. You know how to lead through subject-matter experts, use data, assess risk, support leaders, and improve the employee experience.

You are future-focused and comfortable leading through ambiguity, transformation, and complexity while preserving the values-led culture that makes Team RVH unique.

Success in this role will mean fewer fragmented responses, stronger prevention, more consistent leader support, better use of data, earlier identification of workforce risks, and a clearer connection between staff wellbeing and RVH’s ability to deliver safe, high-quality care.

Future People Team Leadership Expectations

As a member of the People Team leadership group, this Director will help shape the future of HR at RVH through the following attributes:

Enterprise and strategic thinking: Sees beyond the portfolio and brings enterprise-wide solutions that support Team RVH and Vitally You. Workforce strategy and business acumen: Connects workforce decisions to patient demand, productivity, financial sustainability, and long-term capacity. Change leadership: Leads transformation with clarity, compassion, accountability, and trust. Leadership and team effectiveness: Coaches leaders and builds psychologically safe, accountable teams. Data and digital fluency: Uses evidence, analytics, technology, and emerging tools to identify risk and improve decisions. Culture stewardship: Builds trust, creates belonging, and protects RVH’s values-led, community-connected culture.

Qualifications:

University degree in Human Resources, Business, Health Administration, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field; master’s degree or relevant designation is considered an asset. Minimum 10 years of progressive HR or people leadership experience, including senior manager or Director-level accountability in a complex, unionized, healthcare, public sector, or similarly regulated environment. Experience managing in a unionized environment and/or supporting labour relations matters, with exposure to wellbeing, occupational health and safety, disability management, attendance, scheduling, payroll, volunteer resources, or related workforce support functions. Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams, coaching leaders, managing complex people and risk issues, and influencing across clinical, corporate, union, and volunteer environments. Strong understanding of HR, labour relations, workforce wellbeing, risk, legislative, and collective agreement issues, with the judgment to rely on subject-matter expertise when needed. Proven ability to use people and workforce data to identify trends, reduce risk, improve service reliability, and support evidence-informed decisions. Strong enterprise thinking, business acumen, change leadership, communication, relationship-building, and values-based leadership skills.
