Limited remote work available outside of program delivery

Founded in 1947, Kandalore has long been regarded as one of the leading traditional summer camps in Canada providing the best of both canoe tripping and in-camp activities. Kandalore prides itself on its warm and supportive community where children are made to feel included in the camp culture. The supportive nature of the camp allows for the campers to try new activities and develop new skills with the help of caring staff members. Kandalore operates as a summer camp in the summer months and an Outdoor Education Centre hosting school groups from September to June.

For over 30 years, the Kandalore OEC has been providing quality outdoor recreation and education programs for schools and youth groups. As a year-round OEC, we host over 3000 visitors per year. We also work with businesses, agencies, educators, and other adult organizations offering unique and customized programs. The Kandalore OEC caters to participants from grade five to 12, as well as College and University students. Our program encourages participants to discover personal strengths, practice problem-solving and decision-making skills in a fun and challenging outdoor environment.

Job Summary

The Program Director is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and development of the OEC programs at Kandalore. This role includes supervision of staff, program planning, logistics management, and direct communication with visiting groups to ensure a high-quality experience. The role continues year-round, with additional responsibilities during the shoulder seasons.

The Program Director oversees the daily operations of the OEC programs, ensuring an organized and engaging experience for participants. Responsibilities include: develop program schedules, and arrange cabin accommodations and meal requirement They assign and manage duties, schedules, and time off for staff while assisting with the OEC Director on hiring, training, and staff development. The role also involves maintaining program equipment and resources, effective program inventory, managing social media presence, and ensuring exceptional service delivery. Additional responsibilities include conducting evaluations, leading staff meetings, organizing events, supporting site maintenance, handling emergency situations.

What You Bring

  • 4 + years of camping or outdoor education experience.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Standard First Aid and CPR “C” required
  • Minimum Bronze Cross required
  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card an asset
  • Wilderness Advanced First Aid an asset
  • Class G Driver's License
  • National Lifeguard or Instructor Certification is an asset
  • The Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) Level 2 an asset
