Bookkeeper / Accounting Lead Ref: 1125942 Etobicoke, ON $75,000 - $85,000 + Bonus + Benefits
Your New Company Our client is a privately owned business operating within engineering, manufacturing, and project-based services. With operations across multiple jurisdictions and a reputation for delivering specialized solutions to industrial and infrastructure clients, the organization has established a strong track record of growth and long-term customer relationships.
As the business continues to expand, they are looking to bring accounting functions in-house and hire their first dedicated internal accounting professional. This role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact while helping shape the future finance function of the company.
Your New Role As the Bookkeeper / Accounting Lead, you will report directly to senior leadership and act as the primary internal accounting and finance resource for the organization. This is a hands-on position that combines full-cycle accounting, project financial oversight, payroll administration, and operational support.
Key responsibilities include: Full-cycle bookkeeping and accounting Accounts payable, vendor management, and payment processing Accounts receivable, invoicing, and collections Project/job costing and profitability analysis Reviewing project costs, labour hours, travel expenses, and margins Cash flow monitoring and management Budgeting and financial reporting Purchase order administration and financial controls Supporting the transition from an outsourced accounting model to an internal finance function Liaising with external accountants regarding year-end reporting and tax compliance Assisting with financial oversight of international operations
You will also support payroll, HR, and administration functions, including: Payroll administration through ADP Benefits administration Employee time tracking, vacation balances, and related reporting New employee onboarding and employee support Recruitment administration Travel coordination and office management Maintaining employee documentation, policies, and procedures Supporting internal communications and company events
This role offers significant long-term growth potential, including a clear path toward a future Controller position and the opportunity to build and lead an internal accounting team as the business continues to grow.
What You'll Need to Succeed To be successful in this role, you will have: 5-7+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience Strong full-cycle accounting experience Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online Experience working in manufacturing, engineering, construction, consulting, or other project-based environments Strong understanding of AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail A proactive approach with a strong sense of ownership and accountability Strong communication and relationship-building skills
The following would be considered strong assets: Payroll and HR administration experience ADP Payroll experience Experience supporting multi-entity or international operations Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field CPA designation is not required.
