24-Month Contract | Benefits Eligible Location: Cambridge, ON Salary Range: $80,000 – $105,000 annually


ROLE SUMMARY

Atlantic Industries Ltd. (AIL) is seeking a Senior Human Resources Generalist to provide senior-level HR support across the organization. This role has a strong focus on supporting plant and operations teams through employee relations, payroll, time and attendance, recruitment, training and development, job analysis, and HR program administration.

Working closely with plant and operational leaders, you will provide practical HR guidance, promote consistent people practices, and help resolve day-to-day workplace matters. The successful candidate will be comfortable supporting both hourly and salaried employee groups and will bring hands-on payroll processing experience.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

OPERATIONAL HR SUPPORT

  • Serve as a primary HR contact for plant and operations personnel regarding HR, payroll, benefits, attendance, policies, and employee-related matters.
  • Provide practical guidance to managers on employee relations, attendance, performance management, conduct, engagement, and documentation.
  • Support leaders with workforce planning, organizational structure, job analysis, role clarity, and people-related process improvements.
  • Identify recurring operational people issues and recommend practical, business-focused solutions.

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS, DISCIPLINE & INVESTIGATIONS

  • Support managers and employees with workplace concerns, complaints, conflict resolution, and policy interpretation.
  • Coach managers through performance concerns, disciplinary matters, attendance issues, and documentation requirements.
  • Lead or support workplace investigations, including interviews, documentation, findings, and follow-up actions.
  • Escalate complex, high-risk, or legally sensitive matters to the Director of Human Resources.

PAYROLL, TIME & ATTENDANCE

  • Process payroll for hourly and salaried employees, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and timely completion.
  • Support payroll and time and attendance processes, including hours review, approvals, exceptions, employee changes, and issue resolution.
  • Complete or assist with payroll-related activities such as:
    • Records of Employment (ROEs)
    • Payroll remittances
    • Reconciliations
    • Month-end activities
    • Payroll reporting
  • Respond to employee and manager inquiries related to payroll, benefits, and time and attendance.

RECRUITMENT, ONBOARDING & WORKFORCE SUPPORT

  • Lead or support recruitment for hourly, salaried, and operational positions.
  • Partner with hiring managers to define role requirements, organizational structure, skills needed, and hiring priorities.
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation programs to support successful employee integration.
  • Maintain accurate recruitment, onboarding, and employee records.

TRAINING, DEVELOPMENT & HR PROGRAMS

  • Support training and development initiatives, including:
    • New employee onboarding
    • Supervisor development
    • Compliance training
    • Employee development programs
  • Identify training needs based on operational trends, employee relations matters, and leadership capability gaps.
  • Support employee engagement, wellness, retention, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining HR policies, programs, templates, and communication materials.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive Human Resources Generalist experience.
  • Hands-on experience processing payroll for both hourly and salaried employees.
  • Experience supporting:
    • Employee relations
    • Workplace investigations
    • Discipline and performance management
    • Recruitment
    • Training and development
    • Job analysis
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Employment Standards legislation
    • Human Rights legislation
    • Accommodation practices
    • Disability management
    • Employee relations best practices
  • Proficiency with HRIS, payroll, time and attendance systems, applicant tracking systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, judgment, organization, confidentiality, follow-through, and documentation skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • CHRP or CHRL designation (completed or in progress).
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, construction, plant, or operations environments.
  • Experience partnering directly with front-line supervisors, plant leaders, and operational managers.
