Post End Date: July 8, 2026 at 11:59 PM This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the Administrative Professional (Employee Group) About the Role: The Sexual and Gender Diversity Advisor supports Human Rights & Equity’s (HRE) campus-wide role in the development, implementation, and monitoring of institutional anti-oppression, inclusion, and 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion and gender diversity strategies and compliance. The incumbent acts as a central point of contact for individuals and units who wish to access all related initiatives, processes, and services at Brock, with a particular focus on addressing homophobia, transphobia, and gender-based discrimination, and their intersections with racism, colonialism, ableism, xenophobia, and other forms of systemic oppression. The Sexual and Gender Diversity Advisor fosters positive relationships with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and other equity-deserving groups, as well as organizations both within Brock and externally. The Sexual and Gender Diversity Advisor promotes and fosters inclusivity among members of the University community and plays a leading role in the development and delivery of educational tools, project management, and policy support to increase awareness of institutional strategies, initiatives, and resources. The Sexual and Gender Diversity Advisor will: Act as the contact and lead resource for individuals and units seeking guidance on anti-oppression, 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion, and gender diversity processes and services at Brock University; Support, monitor, and report on the University’s initiatives, including systemic and individual incidents of homophobia, transphobia, and gender-based discrimination; Act as the first point of contact for disclosures of concerns, utilizing an intersectional and anti-oppressive approach; Provide support and information on options available to community members experiencing or responding to systemic or individual discrimination affecting 2SLGBTQIA+ communities; Make appropriate referrals to campus and community resources, including those supporting gender diversity and sexual orientation-related needs; Provide ongoing advising to individuals, leaders, and units on inclusive practices and anti-oppressive responses; Develop and deliver training, workshops, and initiatives to increase awareness of anti-oppression, 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion, homophobia, transphobia, and gender-based discrimination; Ensure institutional practices align with current research and legal frameworks related to human rights and gender diversity; Contribute to strategic frameworks advancing anti-oppression and 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion priorities; Interpret and advise on legislation and policy developments impacting gender identity, gender expression, and equity rights; Analyze trends and recommend proactive actions to address systemic barriers and discrimination; Compile, analyze, and report on systemic and individual incidents of homophobia, transphobia, and gender-based discrimination; Provide input into reports and recommendations to strengthen institutional response and prevention efforts. Key Skills and Experience: A relevant Bachelor's degree and experience providing 2SLGBTQIA+ education, advocacy, and supporting institutional affirming practices; Working knowledge of applicable legislation and policies (e.g., OHRC, AODA, OHSA); Ability to work effectively and independently in diverse environments; Demonstrated application of intersectional and anti-oppression frameworks; Strong understanding of human rights, anti-racism, and inclusion issues in post-secondary environments; Skilled in providing confidential, trauma-informed support for human rights and discrimination complaints; Lived experience of racial discrimination; Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality; Experience handling complex, difficult, or confrontational situations; Experience in policy development and strong planning and project management skills; Proficiency with standard software (e.g., MS Office, databases, collaboration tools, social media); Maintains composure in emotionally complex situations while providing balanced, practical guidance; Applies a legally sound, survivor-centred approach to addressing racism and discrimination; Ability to build effective relationships and collaborate with diverse partners; Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; Identifies systemic issues and develops actionable recommendations; Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to identify systemic issues and develop actionable recommendations; Evaluates and responds to potential risks to individuals and the community, with ability to determine when to act independently versus seek consultation. Preferred or Asset Skills: A master's degree; Training and/or certification in Adult Education; Experience in public speaking and adult education, ideally in post-secondary or complex, multi-stakeholder settings. Salary and Total Rewards: Job Grade M, Salary Scale ($74,235- 118,776); Target Hiring Range: $74,235-$80,000* This is a permanent position that includes: Health & Dental Benefits: Comprehensive extended health, dental, and vision coverage. Pension Plan: Enrollment eligibility in the Brock University Pension Plan. Vacation: Up to 3 weeks per year, in addition to university holidays. Professional Development: Eligibility for the Brock Tuition Waiver Program. *The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
