COMPENSATION: CUPE Local 4642 Clerical-Technical – Payband 3B $34.83 to $39.02
HOURS: 7.0 hours per day – 12 Month Classification
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Manager of Payroll & Benefits, the Payroll Coordinator coordinates and processes one or more
payrolls for the Division. This detail-oriented customer service professional must be able to handle large volumes of data from
various sources, organize and maintain the confidentiality of the data according to Divisional policy and privacy legislation, and
process it accurately while complying with strict and inflexible deadlines on an in-house payroll computer system (Microsoft
365). Other duties will include the processing and input of data to activate/ de-activate employees, change assignments, and
enter staffing and leave information. The Payroll Coordinator must be conversant with the Manitoba Department of Education’s
“Financial Reporting and Accounting in Manitoba Education” (FRAME) as it pertains to the school division’s chart of accounts. As
a member of the payroll and benefits team, the Payroll Coordinator will assist in the establishment of payroll processes and
codes and contribute to a customer focused environment. They may be required to assist with payroll procedures including
production of ROE's, T-4's, and perform other related duties. The Payroll Coordinator position supports the strategic actions of
the Multi-Year Strategic Plan.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE):
• Completion of Grade 12 education
- Completion of core level courses of National Payroll Institute (NPI) designation program required; completion of NPI
designation would be an asset.
- Three (3) years current payroll and benefits experience in a similar role; school division experience would be an asset.
- Experience with payroll in unionized and multi-union environment an asset.
- Strong knowledge of current related legislation, statutes, and regulations.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft 365 software and experience in a web-based environment considered an
asset.
- Strong knowledge and experience working with computerized payroll/benefits systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle stressful and difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Excellent understanding of the role of confidentiality and privacy issues and legislation.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently.
- Ability to take initiative to complete day-to-day tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to trouble-shoot, prioritize, and organize work effectively.
- Strong attention to detail.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Clear report from the Child Abuse Registry.
- Completion of Respect In School or equivalent training.
- Review and comply with Divisional policies and guidelines.
- Continued employment is subject to maintaining legal eligibility to work in Canada.
