The Opportunity:

We are a leading Canadian financial services co-operative committed to being a catalyst for a sustainable and resilient society and our team is essential to deliver on this strategy. That’s why we prioritize our people, to ensure we provide a strong culture and development opportunities which enables our team to thrive and to live our purpose. The best part is that you will work with people that care passionately about you, our clients and our communities.

Our Group Benefits team is a leader in our target markets through service excellence and innovative technology and products. Influenced by our co-operative values, our team of experts work collaboratively with clients to deliver solutions that meet their business needs.

Working in partnership with claims leaders and Case Managers, the role drives consistency in return-to-work planning, goal-based conversations, and change-of-definition timelines (particularly in complex mental health claims). It also provides targeted employer engagement and education—especially for small and mid-sized plan sponsors with limited HR capacity—to improve accommodation planning, workplace readiness, and timely reintegration.

With a prevention lens, the role helps identify common workforce risk indicators and enables early intervention to reduce avoidable mental health claim incidence, recurrence, and escalation. This integrated, people-first approach differentiates our disability offering by making expertise visible, measurable, and difficult to replicate through vendor-only solutions.

How you will create impact:

  • Coach and train Case Managers on return-to-work focused communication (plans, target dates, goal-based conversations).

  • Build consistency in change-of-definition planning and timelines across complex claims.

  • Conduct regular 1:1 partnership with claims leadership and supervisors to advise and align on claim strategy, department standards, capability development, and performance enablement.

  • Identify common pre-claim risk patterns (especially mental health) and feed insights into leadership, client strategy, and prevention efforts.

  • Meet with selected plan sponsors (particularly small/mid-sized clients) to understand workplace barriers and support accommodation and reintegration planning.

  • Act as a trusted advisor on mental health, performance, and accommodation challenges to reduce employer-related delays in return-to-work.

  • Prepare and deliver education sessions/materials for employers on mental health in the workplace, supporting employees while at work, and effective performance/return-to-work conversations.

  • Increase employer confidence and workplace readiness to reduce unnecessary absences and delays.

  • Connect to the Group Benefits Wellness initiative and curate a prevention/return-to-work/resilience-aligned wellness strategy.

  • Provide value-added resources for plan members and plan sponsors to support self-management, accommodation, and reintegration.

To join our team:

  • You have 6-9 years of experience in the disability industry.

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in psychology

  • You have demonstrated ability to influence outcomes and negotiate effectively

  • You have strong consultative client advisory skills: ability to engage plan sponsors as a trusted advisor, diagnose workplace barriers, and influence practical solutions to reduce employer-related delays in Return-To-Work.

  • You have the ability to analyze patterns and synthesize insights such as pre-claim risk indicators and common barriers, and translate them into scalable tools, recommendations, and prevention strategies

  • You have strong stakeholder influence without authority (peer-level partnership with leadership; informal leadership across multiple roles)

  • You have the ability to complete detailed program/portfolio analytics and interpret results using strong critical thinking to identify themes, risks, and operational opportunities such as drivers of delayed Return-To-Work and claim recurrence

How you will succeed:

  • You have an innovative mindset to improve operational efficiencies and ability to influence change, with a primary focus on client needs.

  • You use critical thinking skills to recognize assumptions, evaluate arguments, draw conclusions and proactively propose solutions.

  • You have strong communication skills to clearly convey messages and explore diverse points of view.

  • You build trusting relationships and provide guidance to support the development of colleagues.

What you need to know:

  • You will be subject to a Background check as a condition of employment, in the event you are the successful candidate.

What’s in it for you?

  • Training and development opportunities to grow your career.

  • Flexible work options and paid time off to support your personal and family needs.

  • A holistic approach to your well-being, with physical and mental health programs and a supportive workplace culture.

  • Paid volunteer days to give back to your community.

  • In addition to our competitive salary and incentive programs, eligible employees also benefit from a comprehensive total rewards package including group retirement savings plans, pension and benefits (e.g., health and wellness, dental, disability and life coverage), mental health support and an employee assistance program.

Expected salary range $91,058 - $141,058+

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
