About the role

A career as a Senior Legal Counsel in the Human Experience and Performance team at National Bank means acting as a trusted legal partner on employment law matters, workforce initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, and global mobility programs. This position allows you to have a positive impact on our organization through your expertise in employment law, legal risk management, strategic advisory services, contractual negotiations, and support for complex business initiatives. You will contribute to informed decision-making by providing practical legal guidance that aligns legal requirements with business objectives. Your role Provide legal advice on a wide range of employment law matters and support the implementation of strategic business initiatives. Advise senior leaders, Human Experience and Performance teams, and business partners on complex, sensitive, and high-impact employment-related issues. Draft, review and negotiate employment-related agreements, policies, and other legal documentation to protect the Bank's interests and support organizational objectives. Support mergers, acquisitions, organizational transformations, and workforce initiatives by identifying legal risks and recommending practical solutions. Coordinate and supervise mandates entrusted to external legal counsel in Canada and internationally. Monitor legislative developments and contribute to compliance, continuous improvement initiatives, knowledge sharing, and the development of practical legal tools. Your team The Performance, Advisory and Human Risk sector is comprised of more than 45 specialists who work collaboratively, proactively, and with agility to seize opportunities, leverage leading-edge technologies, and drive continuous process improvement. Within the Human Experience and Performance department, you are part of a multidisciplinary team and report to the Senior Director, Employment Law, Mergers and Acquisitions HR and Global Mobility. Our team stands out for its strategic business partnership approach, legal expertise, and commitment to supporting transformative initiatives across Canada and internationally. Prerequisites Hold a bachelor's degree in Law and be a member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec. Have a minimum of seven years of experience in employment law or a related legal practice. Demonstrate strong expertise in advising on employment law issues and drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal agreements and documentation. Possess experience supporting complex organizational initiatives, transactions, mergers and acquisitions, or workforce transformation projects. Demonstrate the ability to balance legal risk management with business objectives and operational realities. Have experience managing multiple priorities and delivering high-quality legal support in a fast-paced environment
