About the role
Company Description Priority Communication Systems Ltd. (PCS) is one of Western Canada's leading providers of telecommunications, emergency call, security, and life safety systems. We specialize in serving seniors housing, healthcare, education, and commercial facilities across Canada.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Operations & HR Manager who will play a critical leadership role in supporting our team, improving our processes, and helping build the systems that allow our company to scale. This is an in-office leadership position that reports directly to the President.
Position Overview The Operations & HR Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of our administrative operations while leading our Human Resources functions and driving continuous improvement throughout the organization.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building structure, creating efficient processes, developing people, and ensuring the business operates smoothly behind the scenes. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable leading people, documenting procedures, solving operational challenges, and stepping in to support the administrative team when required.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Leadership • Lead, coach, and supervise the administrative team • Ensure consistent office coverage during business hours • Balance workloads and establish priorities • Conduct regular team meetings • Manage scheduling, attendance, and performance expectations • Cross-train team members to ensure business continuity • Provide backup support for all administrative positions during absences
Human Resources • Manage recruitment and hiring activities • Coordinate onboarding and orientation for new employees • Maintain employee files and HR documentation • Assist managers with performance reviews and improvement plans • Coordinate disciplinary documentation when required • Support employee engagement and retention initiatives • Maintain company policies and employee handbook • Ensure compliance with Alberta employment legislation • Coordinate employee training and development • Administer benefits and HR programs • Support health and safety initiatives
Operations & Process Improvement • Develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for every department • Continuously review company processes for efficiency improvements • Work with department managers to standardize workflows • Implement new operational procedures • Ensure documentation remains current • Assist with software implementation and operational improvements • Help improve communication between departments
Executive Support • Assist the President with operational initiatives • Prepare reports and operational metrics • Coordinate company meetings • Support strategic projects • Track company action items • Assist with policy development
Office Operations • Oversee office administration and reception functions • Manage office vendors and supplies • Ensure professional presentation of the office • Maintain filing systems and company records • Coordinate company events and staff recognition programs
Qualifications • Minimum 5 years of management or leadership experience • Experience supervising administrative staff • Human Resources experience preferred • Strong knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards • Excellent organizational and time management skills • Exceptional written and verbal communication • Strong problem-solving abilities • Experience developing policies, procedures, or SOPs • High attention to detail • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment • Professional, confident, and approachable leadership style
Preferred Experience Experience with one or more of the following is considered an asset: • Human Resources • Office Management • Operations Management • Process Improvement • Health & Safety Administration • Recruitment • Employee Relations • Performance Management • Microsoft 365 • QuickBooks Online • CRM or PSA software (Autotask experience is an asset)
