Overview
The Office of Human Resources with Lakehead University is looking for Summer Student to work with our dynamic team! This is a position is in collaboration with the Summer Employment Opportunities Program, which means we are looking for a current student either starting work within 6-months of graduating from a post-secondary program or returning to school in September.
Reporting to the HR Organizational Development & Systems Lead, The HR Student Assistant will support Talent Acquisition and Employee Development functions within the Human Resources department, while offering the student meaningful, hands-on experience in core HR operations.
Responsibilities
The HR Student Assistant will support Talent Acquisition and Employee Development through the following duties:
- Coordinate recruitment activities, including posting job advertisements, organizing applicant materials, and preparing hiring documentation
- Manage communications through HR inboxes, responding to inquiries from internal staff and external applicants (general public) in a professional and timely manner
- Liaise with hiring managers to support recruitment timelines and ensure completion of required documentation
- Assist in the promotion and coordination of employee learning and development initiatives
- Maintain and update internal learning platforms and digital content
- Support training logistics, including scheduling, participant tracking, and material preparation
- Perform general HR administrative duties, including records management, digitization of employee files, and ensuring compliance with legislative and organizational requirements
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic proficiency in computer applications and digital tools
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
