Company Description Café Bloc is a bouldering climbing center known for delivering a distinctive and dynamic experience to its community of climbers. The team is composed of passionate route setters who design new problems every week, ensuring a constantly fresh and challenging environment. Climbers benefit from a fully renewed set of routes each month, fostering improvement, variety, and engagement. Based in Montreal, QC, Café Bloc focuses on high-quality route setting, welcoming atmosphere, and a strong sense of community for climbers of all levels.
Role Description As the Managing Director, you'll oversee operations, human resources, events, and client experience, and take part in managing facilities, marketing, and finances. As the central decision-making pillar, you'll ensure the day-to-day smooth running of the business and contribute to its growth, profitability, and quality of client experience.
This is a versatile, evolving role at the intersection of team management, administration, customer service, and project development. The owners are involved and provide their support across your responsibilities.
Qualifications Experience in operations or business management, including budgeting, planning, and performance monitoring. Background in hospitality, recreation, fitness, or a similar customer-focused environment; climbing industry experience is an asset. Strong leadership and people management skills, including team development, scheduling, and conflict resolution. Skills in customer service and community engagement, with the ability to foster an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere. Ability to oversee safety standards and facility maintenance to ensure a secure environment for guests and staff. Experience with marketing or promotional activities, including social media, events, and partnerships. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to make data-informed decisions. Strong communication skills in French and English Comfort working on-site in a physical activity setting and availability for a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed. Proficiency with AI tool
What we offer 💰 Base salary: $85,000 to $100,000, based on experience 🏖️ 3 to 4 weeks of vacation 🍽️ Food and drinks included ✨ Several other perks (gym access for the whole family, climbing gear, health care, and more) 📅 Start date: late August / September 2026 📍 On-site 4 days/week + 1 remote day
