HR Worker Care Generalist
About the role
Synopsis: This role operates in the International Program at the intersection of employee relations, global HR compliance, and worker care. It requires HR best practice, high emotional intelligence, cross-cultural experience, and the ability to influence stakeholders. The role will navigate complex situations and support staff well-being through both routine HR processes and crisis response actions.
The position works closely with and takes direction from the International Program Compensation and Worker Care Lead. The incumbent is expected to embody and reflect the Christian faith foundation of MCC in all aspects of work and relationships.
Qualifications: Essential: • Post-secondary education or equivalent work experience in Human Resources, Counselling, Business Admin or other relevant areas • 3-5 years related HR experience, including processes and systems administration • Demonstrated ability to provide guidance on employee relations issues with discretion and sensitivity, and support personnel issues, crises and workplace concerns • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, consultative and relationship-building skills, especially within diverse groups • Experience in policy development and interpretation • Experience creating, developing, or editing crisis care and/or spiritual care resources • Knowledge of HR legislation, employment standards requirements and best practices • Ability to educate, consult and influence stakeholders (staff, supervisors, and leadership) • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively and productively within a team • Strong attention to detail and accuracy • Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands • Demonstrated discretion with confidential information • Proficiency in MS Office and online tools • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada • Able to travel domestically and internationally frequently, including obtaining and maintaining any required visas or travel documentation • Police record check Preferred: • Prior MCC experience • Cross-cultural/international service experience • Proficiency in another language especially French and/or Spanish • Experience designing or facilitating adult learning • Experience working in a faith-based or non-profit organization • Experience or education in conflict resolution, mediation, or ombud practice • Experience supporting staff during crises

Worker Care, Support, and Employee Relations • Serve as the primary HR resource for international staff and service workers, GSL participants, supervisors, Representatives, Area Directors, in Canada-managed countries • Provide counsel, guidance, and support regarding employee relations, worker care, workplace concerns, personnel issues, crises, performance issues, early terminations, and employee well-being • Participate in crisis response teams (CRTs) and provide support during personnel emergencies • Conduct onboarding conversations, end-of-term debriefs • Respond to incident reports and provide follow-up • Participate in the Worker Care Working Group and contribute to worker care initiatives • Develop spiritual care resources, including Advent and Lent materials. • Support staff through re-entry and transition processes, through the development and facilitation of Re-Entry Retreats. • Advocate for employees and support exception requests where appropriate • Provide regional/national staff support for Europe and the Middle East, specifically as follows: o Evaluate, respond, and track medical reimbursements (for Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Jordan, Palestine, Israel country programs) o Support for revising JDs, recruiting and hiring for openings, and onboarding new staff (for Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Jordan, Palestine, Israel country programs) o In collaboration with International Program HR Associate Director, review existing HR policies in National Staff Handbooks and advise on needed revisions (for Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Jordan, Palestine, Israel country programs)
Training and Development and Facilitation • Collaborate with MCC Canada and MCC U.S. partners to develop and deliver MCC-wide events, including Leadership Seminar, General Orientation, and Re-Entry programming. • Support coaching arrangements for leadership roles
Policy Interpretation, Compensation and Compliance • Interpret HR policies and provide guidance to staff, supervisors, representatives, area directors and leadership • Ensure consistent application of policies and support compliance with employment standards, legal requirements, and organizational practices across jurisdictions. • Identify and mitigate legal and employee relations risks • Determine compensation and support packages for Canadians and international citizens serving internationally and assist with salary recommendations for national staff while ensuring compliance with local employment legislation • Remain current on HR best practices, trends, and legislative requirements in local, national, and international contexts.
HR Procedures and Administration • Prepare and review HR documentation, including recognition letters, contract addendums, termination letters, and end-of-term correspondence. • Maintain employee relations records and incident tracking documentation. • Participate in HR network teams and cross-border initiatives as requested. • Support and help manage the performance appraisal process, including documentation, and follow-up. • Coordinate or support coaching arrangements and leadership development opportunities. • Participate in staff meetings, HR network meetings, and organizational gatherings, including devotions and prayer • Travel domestically and internationally as required • Serve on organizational committees, including security-related committees as required. • Participate in MCC-wide initiatives, projects, and working groups. • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of MCC's mission and organizational objectives. Location Description: Winnipeg is a city of approximately 835,000 people located on the Red River, 112 kilometers north of the U.S. border. Being near the centre of Canada, it is a major transportation hub. The city's population is diverse and has the largest urban Indigenous population in Canada. English is the most common language spoken in Winnipeg, while also being home to a large francophone population. Tagalog, German, Mandarin or Cantonese, Ukrainian and Punjabi are other top languages spoken.
